Baseline survey for the “Resilience Building for Women in Palm Oil Communities” Project in Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra

PENTA Foundation conducted a baseline survey for  Yayasan Care Peduli (YCP) for Prosper III Project in  Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatra. This activity was carried out from Feb – April 2023.

YCP, with the support of Cargill Tropical Palm Holdings, is preparing for the implementation phase of the “Resilience Building for Women in Palm Oil Communities” Project in Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province. This project focuses on efforts to empower women with 4 (four) main objectives :            

1). Increasing women’s economic opportunities and improving the economic welfare of women and their families;

2). Increase the capacity, opinion, and leadership abilities of women in the household and society;

3). Improving the health and nutritional status of women and the community;

4). Develop a holistic model of resilience/alternative livelihoods as part of the oil palm replanting program.

Musi Banyuasin district has South Sumatra province’s largest palm oil industry, ranking third in plantation coverage after rubber and coconuts. The district has the broadest replanting coverage nationally and is where the Indonesian president launched the Community Replanting Palm Oil program. To date, the district has replanted 20,000 out of 52,000 acres. 

This project aims to increase the resilience of women in the oil palm community in Musi Banyuasin District. Toughness is defined as follows:

1.) Increasing women’s economic opportunities and improving the welfare of their families.

2.)Increase women’s capacity, voice, and leadership in the household and community.

3.)Improving the health and nutritional status of women and the community.

4.)Develop a holistic alternative livelihood model as part of the oil palm replanting program.

The Baseline Survey aims to provide information regarding the initial condition of beneficiary groups in the target area. This situation includes the lives of women and communities in the oil palm plantation area, both from the economic aspect, family health and nutrition, security, the role of women in the community, and gender norms that apply and contribute to the situation of women and vulnerable groups.
